Living in Pensacola with an average of 224 sunny days per year, sunglasses are a must for most of us, especially if we spend time in the car or outdoors. So whether you wear your sunglasses to the beach, for driving, or to be able to relax in a sunny sidewalk café, you want to make sure they are good quality to protect your eyes, provide clear vision, and look great too.
If you wear prescription glasses for farsightedness, you’re going to be amazed at what a pair of prescription sunglasses can do for you. Prescription sunglasses bring your world into clear focus while providing comfort and protection from glare. Choose from our collection of affordable designer frames to achieve your perfect look!
Bump up your vision with a pair of prescription sports glasses for an extra edge in the game! Sports eyeglasses are held in place with durable straps that fit securely and comfortably during physical activity. Prescription sports glasses are perfect for basketball, squash, soccer, and a multitude of team and individual sports. The American Optometric Association emphasizes that using proper sports eyewear is just as important as investing in the right equipment and clothing for your sport.
Tennis, hiking, and sailing enthusiasts will find sports sunglasses - prescription or non-prescription - are the perfect accessory to protect from the sun’s glare and maintain sharp eyesight. Be free from the worry of sunglasses dropping, breaking, or getting lost in the middle of a game or adventure. Get set for your active life with a pair of sports glasses or sunglasses, and you’ll wonder how you managed without them!
Prescription safety eyewear protects the eyes from flying debris and small particles that can cause infection or damage to your eyes. For professions like construction and lab technicians, you need to be able to see clearly while protecting your eyes from dirt, dust, and injury. Protective eyeglasses are designed to protect the sides of the eyes and the eye lenses themselves. We also carry glasses that protect from radiation, near-visible light, and things of that nature. Your eyesight is precious, so give yourself the protection you need. The experienced optometrists at Fifty Dollar Eye Guy are here to help you find just the right protective eyeglasses.
When your vision isn’t what you need it to be, life can be well, difficult. We know that we get that, and that is when you need to visit a vision center like us. We offer low-cost eye exams at professional high standards.
There are a couple of things that come up when we see new patients at our optical store. It usually sounds a little like this:
When you come in for your eye examination at Fifty Dollar Eye Guy, we’ll always see you promptly. We’ll run a series of eyesight tests to assess all the movements of your eyes, and do an overall evaluation of your eye health. We’ll then explain the results to you clearly. When eye check-ups are done regularly, they help us, as well as you, to see (no pun intended) if there are any improvements or corrections that need to be made.
There’s a lot to take into consideration if you are thinking about contact lenses, which is why you’ll want our contact lens specialists at your side to answer all of your vision exam and lens questions.
We’re currently offering a free eye exam with the purchase of a pair of glass.
Take advantage of this opportunity today by calling (850) 434-6387. Available at our 5328 N. Davis location only.

Dr. Joseph Tegenkamp has been around for quite some time and has a track record to prove why you should choose us for your eyewear and vision needs. However, this is about you, not about us. Some of the problems that we see arising in the vision care industry are things like long wait times for sight exams and glasses, discomfort with the service provider and associates, and high costs. Here at Fifty Dollar Eye Guy, we don’t just choose any optometrist that walks through the door. We have a very selective process as we know that our clinic, our livelihood, and our reputation hinges on the type of vision exams and services that we provide. We choose our optometrists and optical professionals according to many other requirements besides just what shows up on a resume.
We choose personnel based on things such as:
Professional Vision Care Experience:
Professional qualifications are paramount. We want to be sure that anyone who works at our vision center has the kind of professional experience that we require.
Professional Demeanor:
Your interactions with our eye care specialists are of the utmost importance. We want the members of our staff to ensure that you are getting THE top quality service you deserve each and every time you come to one of our locations.
Dedication To Personalized Care :
In this fast-moving world that we live in, all too often vision centers are trying to get patients in and out the door. We do just the opposite. We want you to know that we are dedicated to one-on-one care for your eyesight.
Our one-on-one approach to family vision care makes us the providers of choice in the Pensacola area. Signs showing you need glasses or a new prescription include difficulty reading, eye strain at the computer, headaches, blurry vision, or trouble with night driving. We don’t always notice the changes in our eyesight, so it’s wise to have regular check-ups by a professional optometrist.
Undetected eyesight problems affect your child’s success and happiness both in and out of the classroom. If you notice your child squinting, covering one eye, complaining of headaches, sitting too close to the TV, or using hand-held devices too close to the face, any of these may indicate that your child needs glasses. Remember that children’s eyes are still developing during their first eight years, and proper vision support during these times can serve to strengthen weaknesses, correct misalignment, and improve overall eyesight.
The American Association of Optometry recommends vision examinations every one to two years. 3. How much is an eye exam?
A very basic vision exam can run as low as $40, while a more comprehensive check-up that includes a retinal scan, dilation, or contact lens exam will run around $100. Of course, prices vary according to location, and according to the qualifications and professional level of the optometrist. Fifty Dollar Eye Guy offers a great price: a free exam with the purchase of a pair of glasses! Call us at (850) 434-6387 to check out this special offer.
Prescription eyeglasses are easy, affordable, and don’t require much follow up with your optometrist. However, some people don’t like how they look in glasses or don’t feel comfortable wearing them. Or they play sports and find glasses get in the way. Contact lenses give more natural vision than glasses because they move with your eye, they don’t fog up, or get wet in the rain. They don’t fall off and break in the middle of a basketball game.
The disadvantage of contacts is that they require more care than glasses. You can get an eye infection if you don’t clean and store them correctly, and contacts generally require more follow up with your optometrist. For some people, it’s difficult to get used to wearing them.
Lasik surgery has been around for decades now, and as of 2020, medical studies are showing that 96% to 98% of individuals who undergo the procedure end up with 20/20 vision, or even better. The procedure is quick, sometimes only 20 minutes or so.
Like any surgical procedure, there are possible side effects, although with Lasik these are usually only temporary. These may include dryness or glare around light sources, and your doctor may provide a remedy for these until they pass. The more serious risks of infection, detached retina, loss of sight, and chronic pain are rare. The American Association of Ophthalmology webpage gives more details about the factors involved in Lasik surgery.
At Fifty Dollar Eye Guy, our experienced optometrists have the necessary equipment and expertise to check for both cataracts and glaucoma. Pupils will be dilated during the exam in order to observe the retina and optic nerve.
